The Commission President won a majority of 382 votes for his re-election, including those of the Eurosceptic ECR group. The European left therefore called it an 'anti-European' vote. However, the Freedom and Democracy group claimed it was a pro-European vote. Barroso clearly remains a divisive figure for the political fringes.
